May You See The Sun - A prayer for healing
An introduction to my new song that I will be professionally recording this year
I’m so excited to announce the song I have chosen to professionally record this year!
It’s called May You See The Sun. I wrote it for a loved one who has been going through a very challenging time after a vaccine injury. The beginning of the song was inspired by the joy I experienced at the first signs of spring after a long, cold German winter.
Life bursting forth after winter in Germany.
Personally, this song is about what it’s like coming out of a season of depression. When we go through winter seasons in life, it’s easy to forget the joy and beauty we have experienced or that which is to come.
However, God is always at work, even when we can’t see or feel it.
I look forward to singing this prayer of healing over myself and others.
May You See The Sun - Mini Demo (Raw Voice and Piano Guide)
Verse 1
It’s been a cold, cold winter.
I feel like I’m waking up from a troubled slumber.
There are parts of my heart that I forgot existed
spring-cleaning, dusting them off.
And who would have known under ice and snow.
there was life brewing all along.
Maybe you don’t see it yet
but I do as someone who’s also been there.
So, I pray
Chorus
I pray that you’ll be healthy and dance with roses at your feet.
May you know that you’re lovely and bring joy to all you meet.
And even though it’s dark now, may you see the sun come out…

Plan
I am so excited to collaborate again with producer and composer, Lee Bradshaw, who has created a gorgeous orchestral string arrangement for this piece
A snippet of the handwritten orchestral score by Lee Bradshaw.
I’ve only heard the midi file, but it brought tears to my eyes.
It will sound even more beautiful when played by real humans!
It’s too early to share the orchestral arrangement with you, but you can listen to Lee’s amazing work on my song This Life from my album Trinkets.
To hear the most epic part of the strings, I suggest listening from around 2:00.
Budget
Here’s an overview of the budget to give you an idea of how much it costs to create and release a song like this.
Production
Arrangement: 750 AUD - Paid
Mix/ Mastering: 450 AUD
Orchestral Strings: 1400 AUD
Studio: In order to reduce studio fees, I have purchased a condenser mic so that I can record my vocals at home. I recorded the demo using this mic. I need to buy a diffusion filter to reduce the sounds of my room, but I already love the sound quality.
Promotion (Album art, photos, music/lyric video, digital distribution etc.)
A good rule of thumb is to invest the same amount of what you spent on production on the promotion.
As you can see, it’s a big investment, but I believe it’s worth investing in and creating beauty that can be shared with the world. However, I’m starting with one song like this a year so that it is sustainable. Quality over quantity, as they say.
I started this Substack in order to get into the habit of writing regularly, share my music, and give people the opportunity to support me financially, which frees up my time and resources to create more music long-term.
Paid Subscribers will receive the rest of the lyrics for May You See The Sun and the full voice and piano demo. I will also be sharing a new song idea or behind the scenes content with you every month + digital downloads to any new music I release.
You can also make a one-off financial gift towards me creating more music via PayPal and I will make sure you get a free digital download of May You See The Sun once it’s released.
Can’t wait to share this beautiful song with you from Sophie’s Studio!
